About

The aim of this blog is to solve a problem: how does a climber who can climb 6a onsight improve enough to climb 7a? This is my problem.

From January 2008 this blog will record my journey through training and development until I the day that I climb a 7a route onsight.

    Hi Phil,

I’m a long time listener but first time commentor. Dig the blog. Looking forward to hearing about your progress.

I have a question: Is climbing a sport, pastime, hobby or just the best way to get shoulders like Papa Bouba Diop?

    Thanks for the encouragement Matt.

Climbing is recognised as a sport by the the Olympic movement - and they are considering adding it to the olympic games in future events.

While I’m a climber and think that its the best sport in the world, I don’t think that it would be a good Olympic sport. If you’re not a climber, it can be quite boring to watch. Try sticking a non climber down in front of Hard Grit, E11 or Psyche. They soon get really bored!

Shame. Because it is such a great hobby/sport/social life.

Good luck with your goal. I’m trying to get there too!

I have been climbing for five years now and I love watching people climb especially if they are stronger than me because it gives me a chance to learn

    Hi Phil,
Some interesting reading for me here, I’m a newbie climber and have started blogging about my progress. While I have completed a few 6a-6a+ routes indoors, I wouldn’t yet consider that to be “my grade.” So I guess I’m one stage behind you ;o)
Nice looking site which has given me food for thought.
    Cheers

    Graeme
